This is the only walking tour in Charleston that includes a tour of the historic Edmondston-Alston House. Charleston's history and unique way of life can be greatly attributed to its location on a small peninsula bounded by two rivers. The southern tip of this peninsula, known as the Battery, has become one of the city's most treasured sites and no visit to Charleston would be complete without touring this historic district. Starting and ending at the Edmondston-Alston House, take an hour-long guided walking tour South of Broad Street and learn not only about the area's rich history, but about the extended Alston family during the years before the Civil War. Your experience will conclude with a 30 minute tour of the Edmondston-Alston House with its magnificent view of Charleston Harbor.

Ben is an incredibly skilled and knowledgeable historian who can make the even dustiest history sound interesting and engaging. But he is not just throwing numbers and years around. He is able to provide the "behind-the-scenes" details of these major events, why they happened, who benefited from them, what the outcome was for the different stakeholders at the time and a lot more. For us, this was an incredible learning experience ... and it was 2 hours of fun. We would do it anytime again. Thank you, Benjamin.

We took the walking tour with Benjamin and he was very knowledgeable of historic Charleston at the battery. It was worth the time and price to learn more and see more on foot and get to know Charleston. And it was the just long enough without being too long. Lots of shade and beautiful sights on a hot Charleston day.

Our guide was very personable, funny, knowledgeable, and accommodating. We got an impressive but not overwhelming amount of pertinent info and all of our questions were answered. The tour was just the right amount of time and we even got some lunch recommendations too.
