This 2-hour introductory paddle on the Edge of America will get you into the basics of SUP, all in the calm flatwater of the Folly River. All safaris begin with "ground school" or SUP instructions with your Lifeguard Certified Instructors. We'll explore alongside the numerous beautiful native birds and bottlenose dolphins. We'll go with the flow, following the tides and wind direction for a great beginning paddle. At low tide we visit a private beach and go for a swim!

Group photo is taken at the end of the tour, which will be posted on our social media pages.

Level: Beginners to Advanced. Ages 8 and Up

We've been curious about paddle boarding for a while, and our trip to Folly Beach seemed like the perfect chance to try it out. Everyone we spoke to recommended Charleston SUP and we couldn't have been in better hands! Eric and Ashley Anne were the perfect guides, accommodating to us beginners while making the trek fun and educational. I especially loved seeing the dolphins, who graced us with their presence. We can't wait to come back to Folly Beach and take another tour.

John our guide had an easy laid back way about him while being super professional at the same time. He shared a lot of great info about the area, gave fantastic instruction and took excellent care of us. Really couldn't ask for more. We almost never give 5 stars - owl eyes, whatever they are. Being from the corporate world, we need to walk on water (no pun intended) to get a 5 star review of our annual performance so we tend to use the same system. You need to go above and beyond to get 5 from us...and John did: We originally scheduled an ocean SUP wave catching surf trip...we surf, but have never surfed with a paddle and the light to moderate waves of the east coast would seem to go hand in hand with SUPing. He called before the excursion to let us know the forecast was looking flat and allowed us to reschedule. That day came and he also said it would be flat, but offered to take us on a different tour. He could have kept the original appt - what we asked for - and we prolly would have been disappointed, but clearly he wanted to make sure we had a good time. This attitude of caring about his customers carried through during our time with him and earns Charleston SUP Safaris...a 5 eyeball review. So yeah, go to Charleston SUP Safaris if you are in the area, good people offering a really fun activity.

Aloha, Thanks so much for awesome and thorough review about your experience SUPing with us. We're a family company and like to treat everyone like they're part of it. We say all of our tours are organic, meaning that Mother Nature is in charge, and we always have to be ready to go with the flow. It also helps that the ocean and Folly river are only a few blocks from each other, so we can change a SUP surfing lesson into a Dolphin Tour on the same day. Thanks, Jon

We absolutely loved this experience! Al was a wonderful tour guide and provided not only instructions on the basics of paddleboarding but a great overview of the ecosystem of the region. As first-time paddleboarders, we always felt safe with Al and he made it a fun experience. It was extra special to have a dolphin swim right next to us out in the water. The entire staff was so welcoming and friendly. This really was one of the highlights of our trip to Charleston. HIGHLY recommend Charleston SUP Safaris!!
