This was my first trip to Hawaii. I wanted to go to a luau. They were all booked except for Chief's so I booked me and my spouse.
The Good
The Chief was pretty funny. And the fire dancers were amazing. The food was average. Pork and chicken were flavorful, vegetables were cold and not cooked.
The Bad
Seating was very uncomfortable. Cheap tables and plastic lawn chairs with no cushion. And absolutely no social distancing. They pack everyone in like sardines. The stranger sitting next to me was so close, his elbow was constantly touching mine.
And they make you get your own drinks after giving you two drink coupons. The lines were so long that I missed the entire opening of the show. When I got back to my seat, everyone was getting up to get in line for food. I'm sure no one actually uses the 2nd drink coupon. You'd miss the whole show waiting in line.
The line for the food was long, but went quickly. It's a cafeteria style buffet where they put a little of everything on your tray and hand it to you.
The way that the tables were arranged made it impossible to see a lot of the show. Instead of facing the stage, you have to turn your head or entire body towards the stage. And the stage is pretty low, so if you are sitting more than 3 people deep, you are out of luck. I sat there and watched everyone's heads move side to side in an attempt to see around the people in front of them.
It's a good show, but it is completely void of comfort, warmth and customer service. So, I would not recommend Chief's Luau. Just make sure to plan ahead and book a better luau with better food, comfortable seating, social distancing, and table service.
