Excellent guides who did a great job of mapping our our tour and explaining what all we were going to see and experience. They both were enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the cuisine, but as importantly, the culture and history of the areas we were seeing.
Surprisingly, to our family, the food throughout Chinatown was much more pleasant to the palate than the offerings in Little Italy. Cheese, cheese and dessert made with cheese was a bit repetitious. We would have expected, perhaps, fresh pastas, red sauce, bread and/or olive oils to highlight traditional Italian cooking.
On the other hand, the variety of tastes and textures in Chinatown surprised us. Each stop along the way provided a multidimensional culinary experience. The Thai lunch and the dumplings were exceptional. The egg rolls were unique but different from what we are used to back home.
Two facets of the trip really stand out and make this an adventure that we recommend highly. First - the marvelous chef that ran the cupcake business in Chinatown went out of his way to open the shop just for us and could not have been more hospitable nor more informative. He was a pleasure to spend time with and has wonderful stories to tell about his business. Secondly, our daughter, who was on the tour with us, has a seafood allergy. Every stop along the way had been informed in advance of her condition and each went out of their way to provide an alternative item for her to enjoy.
Kudos to a tour group that gets it right!
