This was a great tour. I couldn't believe it when I looked at my watch and two hours had gone by. Lots of interaction with our questions and fun history tidbits. Our guide clearly has a passion for his subject.
We did the gilded tour which started at the plaza. The inside story of the Eloise books. The transition from park avenue mansions to hotel living for the rich and famous. And especially the efforts made by our guide and other prominent New Yorkers to keep the plaza from becoming another modern glitzy mall!
Inspired us all with seeing the results of activism for historical preservation!
Lots of stories about the ruthless barons who became philanthropists later in life, perhaps worried about their afterlife? Or just their reputations.
Carnegie, Frick, Vanderbilts, and many more were included as we viewed their former homes and lives along Central Park.
It would have been fun to just sit and listen but was even better to walk along and live in the past for while.
We are hoping to do the Founding Fathers tour on our next visit!
