This 4.5 hour Daufuskie Island trip provides a glimpse into a fascinating chapter of Lowcountry history on the undeveloped side of the island. Learn the rich history of the Native Americans, European settlers, the cotton trade, and the Gullah culture. We encourage you to wear weather-appropriate clothing and bring water, snacks, and sunscreen.

Daufuskie Island

It begins with a boat ride from Shelter Cove Marina to the back side of Daufuskie Island. The ride is an important part of the tour! Along the way we will stop for dolphins and other wildlife, plus view and discuss the sites on Daufuskie and the neighboring islands that are best seen from the water. Once on Daufuskie, you'll get on golf carts and take a tour of the historic, undeveloped side of the island. We stop at all of the significant historic sites and artisan shops of Daufuskie.

We found out when we got there that the seas were very rough & they didn't even go out the day before because of that. The Captain didn't tell us till we asked because some one who was supposed to go the day before told us & then we asked. 3 of us didn't go because of health issues, he told us we wouldn't be getting our money back. It took dealing with another person to find out this wasn't true. We did get back the money for the 3 of us, and thank you for that. This is where my dealing with the captain ended. The rest is what I heard from everyone when they got back. Those that went enjoyed the tour except some couldn't hear him as he didn't turn to talk to them. Nothing was mentioned about the very bumpy ride on the golf carts. Everyone mentioned they felt rushed & even missed the last 3 stops as a storm was coming in & the Captain wanted to beat it. He didn't. One person even asked if they couldn't wait for the storm to blow thru & he said no, get in the boat. I heard the ride was harrowing. 2 people thought it was exciting, the rest not so much. Those without rain ponchos came home drenched, while the captain stayed dry under his canopy. We could squeeze the water out of my husband's shirt.
