Tucked between Hilton Head Island and Savannah, and accessible only by boat, Daufuskie Island is a real gem. This 4.5 hour Daufuskie Island trip provides a glimpse into a fascinating chapter of Lowcountry history on the undeveloped side of the island. Learn the rich history of the Native Americans, European settlers, the cotton trade, and the Gullah culture. We encourage you to wear weather-appropriate clothing and bring water, snacks, and sunscreen.

Daufuskie Island

It begins with a boat ride from Shelter Cove Marina to the back side of Daufuskie Island. The ride is an important part of the tour! Along the way we will stop for dolphins and other wildlife, plus view and discuss the sites on Daufuskie and the neighboring islands that are best seen from the water. Once on Daufuskie, you'll get on golf carts and take a tour of the historic, undeveloped side of the island. We stop at all of the significant historic sites and artisan shops of Daufuskie.

What a great experience! Captain Pete took us out even though it was just the two of us, which was wonderful! He had so much interesting information about the island, plus he pointed out birds and other wildlife. And at the end he gave us a list of books and movies related to what we had seen. It was a highlight of our trip to Hilton Head! Thanks Captain Pete!

This was a very informative and detailed tour of both the waterways around Hilton Head and Dafauskie Island. Capt Pete was awesome and such a great storyteller. Only suggestion would be a microphone so all 3 carts of people could hear well.

The description of “stop for dolphins and other wildlife” was a joke. Captain Pete pointed out ONE dolphin and just drove right by the others. That was it. While he had a good history of the Gullah culture, he has apparently lost his excitement about communicating it. He was not entertaining nor engaging. He even kept talking over a loud lawnmower and didn’t change his tone when asked to speak up. The boat ride on the sunny hot day was the best part of this tour.
