Tucked between Hilton Head Island and Savannah, and accessible only by boat, Daufuskie Island is a real gem. This 4.5 hour Daufuskie Island trip provides a glimpse into a fascinating chapter of Lowcountry history on the undeveloped side of the island. Learn the rich history of the Native Americans, European settlers, the cotton trade, and the Gullah culture. We encourage you to wear weather-appropriate clothing and bring water, snacks, and sunscreen.

Daufuskie Island

It begins with a boat ride from Shelter Cove Marina to the back side of Daufuskie Island. The ride is an important part of the tour! Along the way we will stop for dolphins and other wildlife, plus view and discuss the sites on Daufuskie and the neighboring islands that are best seen from the water. Once on Daufuskie, you'll get on golf carts and take a tour of the historic, undeveloped side of the island. We stop at all of the significant historic sites and artisan shops of Daufuskie.

Captain Doreen was great! She gave us a safe, fun and enjoyable tour of the waterways and Daufuski island. We saw many different birds and several dolphins along the way. Once on the island, Doreen told us the story of the Gullah people, their language and their struggles. The group shared a beautiful moment in the church that will stay with me. Thanks to Doreen and the Outside team for a great adventure.

Andy Kennedy was our Guide and Boat Captain - He and the trip were great. Andy is extremely knowledgeable of the history of the area, historically interesting people and Daufuskie in particular. This is a great way to spend a few hours when at Hilton Head, both as a boat cruise and a tour of Daufuskie.

Captain Pippi provided an outstanding experience. She was extremely knowledgeable and communicated wonderfully. We saw dolphins and other wildlife on the boat trip over to the island, and the tour she gave of some of the historical areas of Daufuskie was most interesting. All in all a great experience, made more special by wonderful Captain Pippi.
