Denali Experience Flightseeing Tour from Talkeetna

This tour takes you within 6 miles of Denali's north summit (19,470 ft.) and south summit (20,320 ft.). You will enter an ancient world of rugged high mountain peaks, towering snow-capped mountains and glacier-filled valleys and explore the south and east faces of Denali. The regular flightseeing tour is 1 hour, or choose the glacier landing option for a 1.5 hour tour including a landing atop a glacier. This is truly a once in a lifetime experience you will not forget.

At first, a flightseeing trip seemed like a pricey add-on to our Alaska trip, but my son and I were so glad that we decided to go. Our pilot, Chris, was knowledgeable about the geology and history of the mountains in a conversational sort of way, without sounding like he had memorized a script. Even though the weather didn't allow us to see Denali, it was a spectacular trip that was the highlight of our week in Alaska.

Readying to be picked up by the K-2 shuttle at our hotel (Grand Talkeetna Lodge) we were browsing the gift shop when several people mumbled and looked out the rear window to see Denali in all its great splendor. The mountain had been sort of "socked in" for a few days but was now gleaming in the early sunlight of a new day. So with anticipation we boarded the shuttle for the short ride to the K-2 facility, checked in and were assigned to a twin Cessna along with another couple and a family of four with two youngsters. Full cabin but what a great ride! The pilot was most knowledgeable, friendly and put everyone immediately at ease as he "ran up" the engines to check temps and pressures then off we went. The scenery is unimaginable and hard to fully describe in words to convey the full range of the vistas the eye is presented with. Slowly gaining altitude we were soon among the peaks and found ourselves amidst the summit faces of Denali itself. Alas, the experience lasted not long enough as we began our slow descent back down to Talkeetna. As we departed I shook the pilot's hand telling him while I know he had no control over the weather conditions, we were very appreciative of what he was able to show us (and tipped him handsomely for the effort). K-2 is a "cant' miss" deal.

K2 handled our last minute request perfectly. Chris was a great pilot and guide and went out of his way to show us a few extra things we wanted to see. On a windy day, our flight was very pleasant. The views, were, of course breathtaking! Thank you K2 for a view of adventures to come!
