After visiting UC Davis, we decided to check out its bustling neighbor, Sacramento, on a food tour. Our tour guide Ciara (sp?) was full of information (being a history major) on Sacramento as well as the foodie scene. The first stop, Mayahuel, had amazing soup and watermelon aqua frescas. The rest of the tour continued to be delicious and interesting. All five of us were very full after the tour, as we were fed plenty of delicious food at each stop. My personal favorite was the chicken fried mushrooms, although the dishes at each restaurant were all delicious. We also enjoyed the opportunity to buy some souvenir foods to take home along the tour, which is a bit unusual and fun.

My husband and I participated in the downtown historical food tour. Our guide was extremely well informed and friendly. The historical aspect of our tour was in depth and thorough. However, we were disappointed in the food that was offered. We started with an italian ice, then stopped at two restaurants where we got a panini, pizza, and beer. While all of the items offered were good, nothing was special. The other two stops on our tour was a spice and candy shop where we got a few small samples that seemed to be the same as the samples regularly on display for everyone. Based on the example menu described on the local roots website and other food tours that we have been on, we were expecting more restaurant stops with more diverse and exciting food. We were also hoping for (but didn't get) at least one of the example menu items described on the website. All in all, we really appreciated our tour guide, her great attitude, and all of the great information she provided, but would have liked to have more food on our food tour.

Thank you for taking the time to review your Downtown Historical Tour. We're so very glad you found your tour guide informative and thorough. We do strive to offer something special on each of our tours and, while we're a bit biased, we think we've got the best guides in the business! We do apologize that you were less pleased with the amount and variation on the food though. Each of our tours is put together on the day of the tour as not all of our restaurants can accommodate us for every tour. We do list the large variety of restaurants with which we work on our website and also state that we cannot always guarantee the stops for a given day. This history food tour was informative, interesting and had some unique food tastings. Our guide, Ceara (sp?), was delightful and very informed about the history of downtown Sacramento, a town that pretty much grew as a result of the California gold rush of the 1860s. Try it...you’ll like it.
