Quite possibly the most chaotic, off-putting show I have ever attended. The premise is sound: five actors perform Shakespeare. One is drunk. But theory does not translate to execution. Holy moly. Between the forced audience participation, the jokes about sex that were likely holdovers from Two Broke Girls, and that one audience member who never had anyone tell him that he wasn’t funny, this was an insane mess. The “drunk”actor yelled “I’m engaged!” no less than five times in the first twenty minutes. At one point, one of the actors was sitting on the floor pinching the bridge of his nose while the “drunk” (and again, it’s in quotes, because my dude had 7 drinks in an hour and was still able to walk, perform, and recite without any slurring of his words or loss of balance) actor did his best to let everyone know that he’s so funny and so clever.
This show is what happens when your acting coach says “go big!” Comedy can be big, but it should also be balanced out by subtlety. There was none here. Totally unenjoyable. The whole thing was a mess and a waste of the obvious talent the actors themselves have.
