So, let me start by saying that Shantel was really terrific. She was fun, friendly, and did a good job keeping all of us together. She really was wonderful and I felt very comfortable after the training session heading out on the Segways.
We booked an outing that was a tour of Ft Lauderdale for a full 10 miles and it was because of the things highlighted in this tour ->> 10 Mile “FULL CITY” Tour – $89/person – (2 hour tour plus 20-30 mins training): Get ready for an unforgettable journey to the top of the 17th Street Causeway bridge! Here, you will take in the up close views of the world famous Port Everglades, the beautiful downtown skyline, the Intracoastal Waterways, and the breathtaking Fort Lauderdale beach coastline! This ride also covers everything on the Yacht & Mansion tour plus a place we call “Iguana Land” and a trip to Wayne Huizenga’s property, one of the wealthiest entrepreneurs alive.
What we did instead was a comedy tour that took us on the Riverwalk and through some intercostal neighborhoods on the south side of the New River. We did get to see a few famous mansions and enjoyed feeding turtles, but it was not what we signed up for. Also, there were more than 8 people on the tour (13 total) and if you were towards the back of the pack, you felt pretty disconnected from it all. My understanding was that the tour was essentially the same as the Ft Lauderdale tour, but the 17th street causeway views were what I had signed up for, so it was a bummer.
I was disappointed to miss that because it would have been neat to see and it was what we wanted to do. This was supposed to be a special outing for a family member's birthday.
Now, all that being said, I still gave this a rating of 3 (Average) because of a couple of things: 1) Riding the Segways really was a blast. They are so fun and I think we'll do that in more cities we visit. 2) Our tour guide, Shantel, was delightful. 3) The owners refunded 25% of our fees in an effort to meet half way. I appreciate that.
We wouldn't do this again necessarily, but I would still recommend this to you and your family. However, I'd just be sure you confirm the actual tour you're going on before you go and I would also ensure they stick to the limit of 8 people on the tour for a more personal experience.
