My husband and I visited the Grand Canyon Railway on 10/7/19. The station was great upon arrival with restroom, gift shop, restaurant and then the Western Show before you depart on the train. The show itself is very cheesy but is great for the children. Once the show was over we boarded the train, we were on the Santa Fe on the way to the canyon and found that it was musky smelling. The restroom did have a small area for you to wait but the actual toilet is smaller than a port-a-jon but they were both clean. On this train you get complementary drinks and snacks which include Coke products, juice, water and coffee; they had danishes, muffins, fresh fruit and trail mix. The train ride is very relaxing and they don't go over 35, I don't think, just sit back and enjoy the scenery. When you arrive at the canyon you take your tour immediately or you can go on your own and explore the canyon. We did the motor-coach tour where they take you to 3 of the best points at the South Rim. The guide was very knowledgeable about the canyon, the animals and the area around the canyon. After out tour we were on our own for about 1.5 hours, so we ate lunch and walked around the village. They have several restaurants, museums, trails and several shops that have gifts, supplies and other essential items needed for hiking. When you're there be back at the train for boarding at 3:15, loading starts at about 3:20 and the the train leaves promptly at 3:30 with or without you. If you're not there the riding back to Williams is about $160. On the ride back we were in the Mary Colter dome car and it was pretty cool to ride at the top of the train car, with a parlor below you could go down and sit in as well. Oh, I almost forgot both of the trains we were on had a bar with beer and a few mixed drinks. On this train, we received complementary drinks and snacks which include Coke products, juice, water and coffee; they had fresh fruit, blonde brownies, chocolate covered pretzels, cheese, humus with crackers and truffles. The ticket we had allowed you to go back on the platform and that was pretty cool to do; however, the exhaust from the train won't allow you to stay out there too long. The train robbery was cheesy and just a way for the cowboys to get in on the tips. I'm not sure that you are required to tip but they're servers so I felt obligated. Overall it was a very relaxing and beautiful trip that I would do again.
