So today we decided to cross another bucket list item off our list. We went with friends to the west rim of the Grand Canyon. You have to park In a large area and be bussed to the location. Upon arriving we read a sign saying no cellphones, cameras, purses or any other personal belongings were permitted on the sky walk. Odd we thought and figured we would get more details at the ticket counter. Must say they certainly were not a very friendly group.
We decide to get the grand package, $69 for which included walking out on the skywalk. Okay so to purchase alone for the sky walk was $26, what was the other funds for? Entrance fee, the seven minute bus ride?..
The view was stunning. The skywalk was a rip off. They make you put all your belongings in a locker and then you have to walk through a metal detector. We asked why we couldn’t bring a phone and we’re told it’s so we don’t drop it on the glass! Really??? if that’s the concern you need to reconsider the type of glass used. Nope that’s not it at all. They have photographers out there to take pictures for you. 8 pictures for $50. What a rip off. Then while I am trying to walk the around the sky walk these photographers are having people lay around on the glass, sit in the middle of the walking area making it extremely difficult for others to get around.
While the skywalk is a work of art as far as construction goes it is literally a waste of time, also way smaller than pictures make it look.
We do hear the south rim has walking trails and more to do, so for anyone visiting go to the south rim.
Would not recommend the west rim or the skywalk to any family or friends.
