I enjoyed 90 percent of the tour, including the long ride around island, the guide’s detailed description of the surrounding geography, how native Hawaiians lived back in the day and today, and key cultural points of interest. Very informative. The guide even played his guitar and sang us songs. However, during the 30 or so minute ride back to the hotel, the guide went on a long lecture on his many grievances about the mistreat of Japanese Americans right after Pearl Harbor. He then launched into his grievances about the treatment of other minorities such as African Americans during the period. Great topics for a college level class with back and forth debate about events that occurred 80 years ago but not appropriate for a captured audience of paying tourists who for the most part, paid to take a ride around the island. Bottom line, it was a turn off for me and ruined the last leg of the tour.
