Our daughter was out of town for the weekend and we were looking for something to do downtown Atlanta. We spend very little time there and thought it would be fun.
We stumbled across the Southern Food Tour by Atlanta Food Walks.
My wife and I thought it would be fun to get out of our comfort zone and try something new.
We arrived at Paschal's and were greeted by a fantastic guide, David Flowers. He was professional, funny, very educated (a recovering lawyer), approachable, and by far one of the most knowledgeable people we've ever met on American History and the Civil Rights Movement, specifically Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Paschal's was fantastic, very nice and welcoming. Great fried chicken, mac and cheese, and those candied yams...to die for.
Short walk to Smoke Ring...outstanding BBQ joint. From there, Arden's Gardens...some of the best juice we've ever tasted. Then to the "Curb Market".
Grindhouse Killer Burgers (Dixie Burger was awesome), Just Add Honey, tea shop, Metro Deli and Soul Food (beans and hocake, unbelievable), and finally Miss D's Pralines and popcorn.
One of the most enjoyable experiences of our time here in the Atlanta area. David made everyone feel comfortable, welcomed, and part of the group.
We were introduced to places and food we would not otherwise know to ask for or to love. We also have an appreciation of where the food inspiration originated from at each location and style of shop.
You will not regret this activity. We highly recommend it. If you can get David for a tour guide, he will make it enjoyable and worth your time. He even made sure we knew how to operate the Marta Streetcar Atlanta kiosk so we could safely get back to Paschal's (indirectly via Centennial Olympic Park).
Thank you, Mr. Flowers for going above and beyond!
