PROS:Small class size, individualized instruction, shallow water, efficient instruction to maximize time in water, photos. instructor
CONS: None! Just book it
Maui was a stop on a recent cruise and I decided to do surf lessons. No one else in my travel group wanted to participate so I went to the lesson alone. There were a total of 4 of us in the lesson. After checking in, I was given a rash guard and shoes and off we went. The shop is across the street from the beach. We started with a very quick(5 minutes at most) tutorial on land, then we got in the water and paddled out. This was a lot of work for me, but thankfully the water was shallow, so at a certain point I jumped off the board and walked. Our instructor wasted no time putting people on waves and that cycle continued throughout the 2 hour lesson. He gave each of us individualized instruction. The end goal was to get you standing. Some people got this right away and by the end of the lesson were getting their own waves. Other people, like me, took the whole 2 hours just to stand up. The instructor was very patient. The photographer got in the water with us. At the end of the lesson she allowed everyone to view their photos. It is optional to buy the photo package. I purchased one. The photos were excellent. Since I was solo I wouldn't have had any pictures otherwise. Great excursion. If I go back I would definitely book again.
