Before booking this, it’s really important to understand that your experience is HEAVILY dependent on whether the weather cooperates or not. We arrived at 3am for our checkin and all seemed well. Please note, the driver talks the whole drive, so don’t expect any sleep on your way up the mountain.
Upon getting to the summit, it became very clear that we were not going to see any sunrise. It was cold, and pouring rain. The guides didn’t really explain what was happening - including length of time or likelihood of seeing anything. As a result, we all just kind of stood around while they shrugged their shoulders.
Onto the good part, the preliminary bike down was lovely. The weather cleared and the beginning of the trek was quite positive. This quickly shifted as the rain reappeared stronger than ever. Almost immediately, we couldn’t see, with cars flying by us and our clothes extremely (extremely) wet. The guides give you rain gear, but don’t underscore why you need it. By the time it’s pouring, it’s too late. We spent the last 40 minutes soaking wet and wanting it to end as quickly as possible.
Overall, I see the why this is so positively reviewed. On a beautiful day, I’m sure this would be fabulous. But beware. It is very risky to do this trip if it’s at all rainy. The tour should honestly do a better job of alerting you of rainy conditions and giving people an out if it’s looking treacherous. There really is no excuse to put people in situations like that for the money you spend. Wish we just slept in and hung by pool.
