Since we were only in Denver for a day and a half, we thought this would be a good opportunity to set foot in the Rockies, however briefly. Gentry was a cheerful and excellent guide, taking us to an interstate pullout where we saw buffalo and had a great view of the Rockies lying ahead. Once in the Rockies, we stopped at Echo Lake, which was frozen over despite relatively warm temps, and trekked a bit at Juniper Pass (elev. 11,020 feet), which had spectacular views. On our way back we visited Idaho Springs, where we wandered the shops and some in our group stopped for pizza and beer. A quick and memorable four hours.
