The wine and food walking trip in Healdsburg was so well done. Carol is an excellent tour guide, very knowledgable, and personable. She was meticulous about any dietary concerns in our group (there were 4 couples in our group).
We visited 3 wineries and 1 tea shop around the plaza. It was easy walking - we only walked about 1 mile in the 4 hour tour. We enjoyed small bites at each stop- cheese and crackers, chicken sausage, chocolate brownie, and olives at the first winery, each paired with a different wine. At the second winery, we had smoked chicken and a special recipe coleslaw (containing apples and horseradish as secret ingredients). We enjoyed pecan shortbread and toffee at the tea shop, and finally 2 slices of thin crust pizza at the last winery.
We enjoyed 4 or 5 healthy pours at each of the wineries. (The tasting fees are included in the cost of the walking tour.) The stop at the tea shop was a welcome break from all the wine tasting!
The hosts at each of the wineries were very knowledgable about their product, and very attentive to our group. However, we were immensely impressed by Walker Stephen at the Stephen & Walker Winery (being related to the owners has its benefits!). He was extremely generous (giving us membership privileges for the day), pourng an extra tasting of rose, and providing gourmet olives as a supplemental snack. The 4 in our group agreed that we enjoyed the S&W winery the best.
We would highly recommend this walking tour for first-time visitors and out-of- towners. It was a fantastic way to spend the day with friends - old and new!
