My husband and I have done a few dinner cruises in Florida and have enjoyed them so when we decided to visit Key West we booked one with Sunset. We were told to line up at a certain spot at a certain time and we arrived early which turns out to be the best decision we made. After waiting in line for 30 minutes next to smelly trash cans, 2 staff came out and we were informed that there was not enough seating for everyone to eat dinner at the same time so we would be assigned seats by the line order and as soon as we were done eating, we needed to vacate to make room for others. This is not the way other dinner cruises we have been on have operated, we have always had a specific table that was ours for the duration.
Once we boarded, we were all herded to the top deck out in the sun, there was no shade. We had to remain up there until our group was called to go down to the dining area. They did serve rum punch but it was thick and syrupy. The large blender broke on the 2nd pina colada they made so that option was out. Fortunately, we were group 1 for food because we lined up so early. We went downstairs to the dining area and it was unimpressive to say the least. Battered furniture was laid out to eat on while an extremely sweaty man was handling all the dishes behind the buffet. The food wasn’t horrible but it wasn’t great. Somewhere in the middle. They served rolls, mojo pork, Caribbean chicken cubes, fried fish, steamed vegetables that I believe were frozen, yellow rice and mashed potatoes with gravy.
As we were eating, we were informed the boat was going back to the dock because of weather. We went back up top so other people could eat. When we arrived back at the dock, we noticed a few people getting off of the boat. Staff tried to talk to them and let them know we would be going back out, they said no thanks. Several more followed suit and we ended up leaving as well, followed by a few more. The experience was disappointing to say the least. I would not go on this excursion again.
