I was in Key West for a conference that had us booked aboard the America 2.0 for the sunset sail. I was expecting a touristy booze cruise with the sails raised purely for decor. I was pleasantly surprised! The winds rose as we moved into the harbor aboard the well-appointed, modern cruising sloop adorned with glistening teak and brightwork. The crew, with volunteer assistance, raised the sails and cut the engine, and the ship heeled slightly under sail power. The captain allowed volunteers to helm the ship. As a fairly experienced sailor, I was allowed the helm the boat through a tack, which was exciting as I had never tacked such a large vessel. It was a cool experience. The crew was friendly, and served beer, wine and quality snacks including shrimp cocktail, cheese and crackers and a veggie tray. The ship was clean and neat. The head (bathroom) was very tidy and pleasant. This is a can't-miss experience during a Key West visit.
