My family and I thoroughly enjoyed the guided kayak tour of the Lover's Key estuaries near Fort Myers Beach, FL. Stephen Denmark (our tour guide) is outstanding, and a wealth of knowledge. He made the information easy to understand, interesting, and best of all, fun. You can tell he cares and is passionate about the surroundings he's sharing with you. The best review possible of this attraction? My teenage daughter (age: 15) thought this was the best part of the vacation. I didn't think was possible, since my wife and I also participated. ;) She ignored her phone for an entire 2 hours, and would have been happy to go longer!!
We saw manatees, dolphins, tarpon, mullett (fish, not hair), nine-legged star fish (who knew?!?), fighting conch, and birds to numerous to count. Stephen also found a fish that he'd never seen before, and we're waiting to see if it's a new/unidentified species.
The kayaks provided (both tandem and solo) are stable, easy to paddle, and allow you to fully enjoy the tour without needing to be an experienced kayaker.
THINGS TO TAKE WITH YOU: sun screen, water/water bottle, ziplock bag or a small clear dry bag (for camera/phone, etc), a hat, and sunglasses. I recommend polarized sunglasses if possible. They greatly reduce the glare on the water and allow you to spot fish, manatees, etc below the surface of the water.
You can also make a full-day of going to Lover's Key, because the tour is just a part. Enjoy the beach, which tends to be less crowded, and the water of the Gulf is amazing!
