Adventures on the Gorge

Meet your rafting trip leader at the departure point. You will listen to a brief orientation and get your gear (personal flotation device, helmet and paddle). Then, you will have a 30-minute ride on a school bus down to the river put-in. Your guide will go over additional instructions once you get in the raft. The trip begins with a few smaller class I-III rapids as you ease into paddling and working as a team. Then, you hit some bigger rapids rated class IV-V. About half way through the trip, your trip will pull over and eat a deli-style lunch on the shore. After lunch, you will continue downstream into the heart of the Gorge. Here you’ll go through several rapids rated class III-V. Between rapids, there is time for swimming, floating and maybe (based on water levels) jumping off of rocks. The trip ends just past the New River Gorge Bridge.

Our family had so much fun on our 1/2 day rafting trip with Adventures on the Gorge. We’ve rafted several times and this was by far our favorite experience. The weather dropped into the 50s the day of our trip, but we rented full wetsuits and still had a blast. Despite the cold weather, our guide Doug kept us entertained from start to finish and we’re still talking about him days later. He kept us laughing and informed about the regions history as he expertly navigated us through the exciting rapids of New River. Highly recommended family fun!

Adventures on the Gorge is the way to go when visiting the New River Gorge National Park. First time white water rafting and had a great experience. Visited the resort and the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about all available trips. Answered all our questions and helped us choose a trip. Choose the Lower New River all day trip that included lunch. Our tour leader JARED was the best! Very experienced and knowledgeable about rafting the New River. Gave us all safety tips and checked our PFD to be sure the fit was correct. Jared told us the name of each rapid, the class and what to expect and how to safely swim out if we fell out. The lunch was great and being able to swim in the river was refreshing. Our tour was videotaped by Hayes, and he did an excellent job capturing us in the rapids. Being able to watch the video after at Chetty's was fun. Would highly recommend requesting JARED to be your tour leader.

Amazing trip 10 miles long on the river with lunch. Our guide Matt was exceptional. A great experience. Highly recommend this adventure.
