On a scale of 0-5, Dom Gervasi rates a 10+! Well-informed about the political, economic, ethnic and cultural histories of his native Brooklyn, he shared information and personal knowledge and insights during a walking tour of DUMBO (explaining not only the meaning of the acronym, but why the neighborhood was so named). Following his "Made in Brooklyn" theme (ranging from Brillo pads to coal-fired oven pizza to Jacques Torres chocolates), he enriched our knowledge from prior visits of the Bridge, the River Cafe, Bargemusic, the ice cream factory and Jane's Carousel; showed us the factories and warehouses re-developed as apartments, studios, shops, theaters and restaurants; and introduced us to artists in their studios. We learned of Dom from the glowing reviews on tripadvisor, but our NYC visit did not mesh with his scheduled group tours. He agreed to conduct a half-day tour for us (for a quite reasonable fee). We look forward to Dom introducing us to other Brooklyn neighborhoods on future visits.
