Our guide, Amber, picked us up on time at our hotel in central Anchorage, and drove us the approximately two hours up to the glacier, with photo stops along the way. She gave us some history and back ground information on the area and answered any questions we had. She got us into the hiking area before other groups arrived, allowing us some beautiful, peaceful solitude before the majority of the groups came in. She supplied us with helmets, crampons, gloves, walking sticks, and if we needed them, boots and a beanie. She made sure we were comfortable with the equipment and the use, and she helped us to see, do and go within our comfort zone and her safety zone. She was an excellent guide, showing us things that we might not otherwise see or know about. With one of the walking sticks, she showed us how far down one of the seemingly "little" crevasses went, and why we need to be careful (exactly why we hired a guide, so they see and warn us of these things that we miss!). By having Amber guide us, we also were able to safely go out farther and higher than we could have on our own. We were lucky to have a beautiful fall-ish day with leaves changing color, blue sky and the white glacier creating stark contrasts. Lunch off the menu at a restaurant overlooking the glacier followed our walk, then we had a scenic drive back, arriving about 4pm back in Anchorage. Awesome day, Beautiful views and hike, Great guide. Highly recommend this tour.

Amber picked us up at our hotel in Downtown Anchorage and drove us the two hour-ish scenic drive to the Matanuska Glacier access area, occasionally stopping for us to take some pictures. She provided helmets, crampons, gloves, walking stick, and if needed, boots, at the glacier. Amber guided and instructed us while on the glacier, for safety and to be sure we were hiking at our comfort and ability levels. We were fortunate to have a beautiful Sept. day, but she told us that even when it's gray/rainy in other areas, typically the glacier is still decent weather. We had an awesome hike experience and the scenery with the fall color, the white glacier and the blue sky was picture perfect. When we arrived at the glacier, it was earlier than other tour groups, so it wasn't very busy until we were leaving. Liked the timing! Also meant we were back to our hotel before 4 pm (but a larger group might take longer to get back to each individual hotel)!Lunch, right outside the glacier hike entrance, had a nice view of the glacier too. All around great experience!

We took the Matanuska Glacier summer tour and we had the best time. With all the tours around all the states we’ve visited, this one is our all time favorite. Walking in a glacier is a bucket list which now thanks to Bill we were able to cross that off our list. Bill was just spectacular. He provided us with grab ons (I hope that was the right name), walking sticks, had shoes available for us but we brought our own and with helmets, answered all our questions and made sure we felt safe out there. He truly has the best job ever!! Breathing in the crisp fresh air and tasting the glacier water was amazing. We learned so much from this tour and if anyone is wanting to do a glacier walk, Greatland Adventures is the company you need to use. I will highly recommend them to anyone and everyone I talk to, and I talk a lot lol. Thank you to Bill for showing us an amazing day and taking us to the most beautiful place we’ve ever laid our eyes on!!!
