We visited over the NY spring break which is the week following Passover and Easter. It happened to be overcast and rainy our entire trip to Mystic, which really is a bad time to visit this place. We went to the seaport on a Monday. We entered right as it opened to try to beat the rain that was coming in the afternoon. So it was very quiet... The people that work there in the little shops - some are GREAT with kids (had a 4 and 7 year old) and some just stared at us. The 4 year old was bored, but my 7 year old was interested in some of the stuff. The printing shop was notably great with the kids as was the shop where they carve bulkheads and the barrel maker played with my kids. My kids were BEYOND upset that build your own toy sailboat is only on weekends (honestly Mystic Seaport - would it kill you to have this open during the week for visitors who want to pay less traveling on weekdays on vacation?) I think if that was open it would have been the highlight of my kids stay. The childrens museum on the property is more like a play space, not a museum, and it says to age 7 but my 7 year old was bored - it is geared to very small children. But it gave us a break for a while as it rained a bit. My kids loved going on the 3 boats available. We ate at the Galley and it was fine - nothing overly special to write home about. Overall, I am glad we visited but I am not super impressed. There is just not enough to keep very young kids entertained on a week day.
