This is a colorful, soulful, informative museum. It is open, spacious, and well organized. It moves from the African roots of music, to gospel, to blues, jazz, to juke box music and rock n’ roll, and modern day hiphop.
The museum has tons of artifacts, including BB King’s guitar, Louis Armstrong’s trumpet, and George Clinton’s wig. Billie Holiday’s clothing, makeup, and microphone. And so much more!
It’s multi-media, a good mix of words, info, and photos. A lot of interactive exhibits where you can make your own playlist. Videos, murals, and wonderful, knowledgeable docents. There was a film at the beginning that set the scene perfectly.
My ticket was 24.95. Totally worth it. I got a parking spot through Spot Hero nearby for a little over 12 bucks for 12 hours. The museum is right downtown, across from the Ryman, so if you’re looking for restaurants and tourist activities, you could have a full day.
