Local award-winning author and historian Sally Asher will take you on a tour of a famous New Orleans cemetery that she wrote about her in book "Stories from the St. Louis Cemeteries of New Orleans." On this walking tour, you'll learn about burial practices, types of tombs, and visit the graves of some of the city's notable (and notorious) citizens including the hunchbacked photographer who secretly photographed prostitutes, the woman behind the quirky castle, the famed architect whose ship went down with over a 100 prostitutes and circus performers, and legendary chefs who collectively advanced the Civil Rights movement, restored horse racing in the city, and (for better or worse) introduced the turducken to the U.S. The tour takes an 1:15 and is under a mile. Sally is passionate about revealing New Orleans' unusual, outrageous, and untold stories, believing history isn’t about merely listing dates and facts, but the gentle collision of truth and narrative – scandals and all!

This tour is definitely worth taking! My husband wasn’t sure about taking it, but he liked it too. Sally is sooo knowledgeable, and so happy to share what she knows. Our tour ran long because she answered all questions anyone had, and threw in stories that she hadn’t planned on telling. She loves her subject, and it shows. So many interesting things you’d never learn walking around on your own.

My friends and I really enjoyed this tour. Sally was friendly, passionate and very knowledgeable about the cemeteries. Definitely worth it when visiting New Orleans.

Sally is an amazing tour guide. You can tell she really cares about her work. She is a legit researcher, scholar, and author and this shines in a way that is much more thorough than taking a tour with one of the larger "companies" you can find in New Orleans. Tour was about 90 minutes and I learned so much about St Louis #3, and New Orleans culture in general. What an excellent person to get to know as part of my "first time in NOLA" experience!
