Go on this tour on a sunny clear day, but get ready to feel like part of the herd! This tour is not cheap ($40 + per person) and all along the tour, staff try to upsell you with all sorts of extras -- I-Pad tour, shop, photos, bar, cafe, etc-- so know what you want beforehand. The views are spectacular, and getting there, as you are whisked up many floors with a fabulous projection in the elevator of the changing skyline from Native American days to the present is worth the price of admission. But from then on, you'll be moved along briskly with no encouragement to linger. The baseboards have skyline cutouts so you can't rest a purse --or your behind--on them to get a picture, and benches for sitting and enjoying the view are few and far between --maybe two in the whole circle. My friend and I expected some information on Twin Towers and 9/11 with a corresponding level of respect, but not here. Exhibit on various telescopes was about it.
For the money, it makes more sense to go to the top of the Marriott Marquis at Times Square and have a drink and a snack at The View and you'll be entertained and informed by the waiter, see all sides of the Manhattan skyline while comfortable seated, and pay less.
