If you like:
Toilets that don't flush and are overflowing on the floor with human waste.
Bathrooms with no toilet paper and no hand towels.
An outdoor public address system that sounds like two soup cans and a string.
Miserably long lines.
Rude crew members.
An unresponsive company office.
Con artist ticket sellers.
A Captain who thinks he is Kurt Russell in the film Captain Ron.
A boat that takes you "near" the Statue of Liberty, instead of "to" it.
Then The Manhattan is definitely the boat for you.
Please understand, I have never before left a negative review for any business.
We came to NYC to visit our grandchildren and wanted to take them to the Statue of Liberty for our Sunday in NYC.
The ticket seller was an absolute BOLD FACED LIAR. He said the boat would take us to the Statue and that we could spend an hour on liberty island. The boat never parked at liberty island...it drove by.
The ticket seller said there would be free snacks and drinks for the children. Another LIE. The snack bar counter person said that sometimes the ticket guys lie to sell tickets, and sincerely apologized.
We recently took a similar boat trip in Seattle. The crew gave safety instructions, showed how to put on a life preserver, and talked about what to do in an emergency. All in a pleasant and entertaining way. When I asked a crewmember, I was told, not to worry, because I didn't need to know. And that they never had any problems.
Neither did the Titanic. Until there was a problem.
The toilets were literally overflowing on to the floor with human waste. I mentioned it to the captain. He said, sorry but the company doesn't seem to care about the toilets. He said it like it was a joke and trying to emulate Captain Ron.
The sight and stench in the ladies room was so bad, that my wife vomited and ran out.
Of course, there were some positive elements.
The tour guide was good and knowledgeable. But unfortunately, his efforts were wasted because the public address system could barely be heard outside.
The sights of NYC were wonderful from the boat.
The snack bar had quality items.
But the boat was absolutely horrible, the crew rude, not enough seats and we were packed on the boat like livestock being transported to the slaughterhouse.
We wanted a nice day with our grandchildren. What we got was a surreal experience, looking at the beauty and glory of New York City from what felt like being on a third world boat to hell.
