We thoroughly enjoyed our tour day! We were picked up and dropped off at our hotel which was very convenient. There is lots of distance driving for this tour. Thankfully, our driver Donna was a peach making g the trek pleasant. The bus was large and d well air conditioned, Although not an official guide, she was a wealth of information. She described the layout of NOLA, pointed out landmarks, explained the ecology and its challenges, and provided insight into the lifestyle of the people of the area. She was helpful and pleasant. The Oak Alley Plantation tour was interesting in that it had replicas of the slave houses and provided an insight into what slave day to day life was like. The landscape was gorgeous with its massive oak trees. The tour of the plantation mansion was informative and the guide was very knowledgeable. It did seem to lack somehow. Maybe that there really wasn’t that much to see that was authentic. The slave houses were replicas. The detached kitchen was no longer there. The juvenile house was no longer there. There were only two or three rooms in the mansion to see and most were not original furnishings, etc. I guess I thought there would be more. Still worth the visit though.
The swamp tour was surprisingly the highlight of our day. Our guide (can’t remember his name) was awesome. He grew up in the swamps. He was extremely informative and interesting, He is fearless. He is like the Dr Doolittle of Alligators. I thought we might see one alligator. I think we saw at least 10. They came right up to our boat. We got to hold a baby alligator. This is mother my type of thing to do but thought my husband would like it, but I was pleasantly surprised. The whole experience was very cool!!’ Highly recommend!
