Today was my 12-year-old daughter's first time learning to surf. She had previously been boogie boarding a few times on her own, but wanted to really dive in and learn to properly surf. I found Sandbar through their really great reviews, watched their online video with her and asked if this was the place she wanted to try out. Absolutely!
Jonny called me back immediately and ran through the process of lessons, where to meet, what it would be like, what to bring and everything. Really made me feel at ease and also said if anything comes up, let him know! Any questions - he's there for us!
The day of the lesson, two gals (Heidi and Karli) were eagerly waiting for us and got right in to helping my daughter with her gear, getting her excited (despite the 50 degree temps) and making her feel comfortable. Two other parties were joining in the fun, and both seemed to have more experience on the boards or swimming. That's ok, because never once did my daughter feel out of place.
For the two hours, Karli did an amazing job in the water with my daughter - cheering her on, getting her going, and never letting her get frustrated (which can be common if she doesn't get it the first time). I was really impressed with both instructors and how they just made sure everyone in the group had a great time. My daughter REALLY enjoyed her time on the board, despite never getting up on her feet.
I can't recommend Karli, Heidi and Jonny enough. We're going back tomorrow (and the next day) to master getting up on the board and cruising on waves. My daughter came out of the freezing cold water with a big smile on her face and knew she'd get it! She's going to be surfing for life, I know it!
