Derek picked us up at our Big Sky hotel early in the day, and it took about an hour to get to Yellowstone. He was even kind enough to make a stop for coffee and a treat along the way. He knew the park like the back of his hand and was able to guide us to the parts of the park that were less crowded. We didn't experience many crowds until the afternoon, and that was impressive given that it is the tourist season. The only place we saw a crowd was when we went to see Old Faithful, and that simply cannot be avoided. It is such an advantage to go with Derek because he takes you on a tour that he personally maps out for you that includes the things you're most interested in -- and avoids all the chaos and hassle of the rest. Yellowstone is gigantic, and if you don't know much about the park, you could waste a lot of time on things that aren't as important to you. My husband and I would have exhausted ourselves if we would have tried to cover Yellowstone all in one day without Derek's thoughtful planning and navigation. The other thing that I liked about Derek is that he focused on environmental studies, so he knew a great deal about the ecosystem of Yellowstone. He could tell you so much about the wildlife and how Yellowstone manages this delicate ecosystem. He was a very interesting person who had a lot to share with us about Yellowstone and that region of the country in general. He's also a fun, enjoyable person to spend the day with. I highly recommend his tours!
