The Country Boy Gold Mine tour was one of the most fun days we spent during our trip to Breckenridge. You are guided into an old Gold mine for a tour that last about 45 minutes. The mine itself is surprisingly comfortable. It's warm in the winter and cool in the summer, and you won't have to do any stooping (unless you're really tall), crawling, or getting dirty. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and obviously enthusiastic about the history of the mining, mining techniques, and typical mining life. He did a great job. At the end of the tour, they show you how to pan for Gold (indoors during the winter, in a stream during the summer). Everyone in our group found gold! Although you will likely only find a few specks, it is still exciting and additive once you've found your first flake. Several people stayed and panned for about an hour after the tour. We could have done it all day!
A little word of warning. The mine is dark, damp, and a little too creepy for very young children. They will turn the lights off at one point in the tour. We had a two year old in our group that was frightened and crying through most of the tour, and made it difficult for the rest of the group to hear the tour guide. If you have young children who are afraid of the dark, this might not be the tour for you.
