In the midst of the majestic Rocky Mountains, the Country Boy Mine was one of the largest and most famous gold mines in Breckenridge, Colorado. Today, we invite you to visit the Country Boy Mine and enjoy the many activities the mine has to offer. Join us for a mine tour into a real gold mine at this historic restored mining site. While at the mine you can also gold pan, pet the burros, slide down the 55 foot ore chute, explore the authentic mine site, view the exhibits and equipment that were used in the mine and visit the general store. The Country Boy Mine has been offering mine tours for over 20 years. The Country Boy Mine is located 2 miles from downtown Breckenridge in Summit County, Colorado.

I visited with a 6 year old and the tour was very enjoyable. It lasts about 45 minutes. Our guide (Austin?) was very entertaining and friendly. He took pictures near the mid point of the tour with your own cameras (no need to buy pictures). Panning for gold was also fun if not a tad difficult for young children.

We loved touring the Gold Mine! We ranged in ages from 72 to 4 and everyone loved it. Wear shoes that will keep your feet dry and warm. The mine is 50 degrees year round. More importantly, go to the bathroom before arriving. The restrooms are absolutley the worst I have ever seen, EVER! They are basically a hole in the ground with a metal toilet seat. I cannot stress enough how bad they are. Other than the restrooms we had a blast!

We were looking for a quick afternoon outing while visiting Breckenridge, Colorado. We came across The Country Boy Mine Tour. Even though it sounded cheesy thought we would give it a try. We were happily surprised. Tour of the actual gold mine was fun and informative. You actually go back into the mine several 100 feet. Guide talks about a number of aspects of late 1800 mining along with a few demonstrations. Afterwards same guide demonstrates how to pan for gold and then everybody gets a chance to try. We actually found a spec of gold which our kids (12 & 9) know proudly keep in a jar.
