We took the ferry from Salem to Boston to avoid city traffic and parking problems and it worked out almost perfectly. The trip from Salem was on a very windy day, so the ride was a bit rough, but fun anyway. The commentary along the way was interesting and helpful. We sat comfortably inside due to the cold temperatures, but enjoyed the view. Unfortunately, due to the wind and high seas, our return trip was cancelled. The captain suggested taking the train from the North Station back to Salem. Within 10 minutes of the cancellation, I received a call from the cruise company also to let me know there would be no more ferries that day and to let me know that our return trip fee would be refunded. The lady was even helpful in letting me, a tourist, know when the trains run for the return to Salem. She could not have been more courteous and helpful. As it turned out, we took an Uber back to Salem and had a wonderful day in town and a scenic ride back to our hotel. I would highly recommend using this option for getting to and from Boston. The dock is located a very short walk from Faneuil Hall where we started on The Freedom Trail.
