I live jn San Diego and this has been on my wish list for a long time. As a birthday present to myself and my mother in law, we took this tour with some of our family members.
It was truly an Amazing experience. We were lucky to see about 5 blue whales and a large pod of dolphins. The captain counted 7 whales in the area that day. We got to see something very rare, not just one but two females and babies feeding. The boat was amazing and no one got seasick. The crew was also top notch, with plethora of information about the SD coastal region, marine life, and of course info on the whales we saw. It was also very cool to sail on the replica of the America and learn the historic importance of this boat. You could almost picture what it would feel like if you were sailing on an ocean adventure in the 1850s.
Bring sunblock and a hat, dress in layers as it can get cold and windy on the water and there isn’t much shade on board if the clouds dissipate (it is a sail boat after all). We didn’t get a chance to see all the sails up (only the front) because there wasn’t much wind yesterday, but that’s ok.
Overall, it was a really awesome experience and I would highly recommend this tour. As a SD local, it made me appreciate even more all the natural beauty of our coastline and the majestic power of the Pacific Ocean.
