The San Diego Zoo is a 100-acre wildlife park and home to over 12,000 rare and endangered animals, representing more than 650 species and subspecies. Located just north of downtown San Diego in Balboa Park, the Zoo is also an accredited botanical garden, caring for more than 700,000 individual plants, including a prominent curated assemblage of close to 13,000 specimens, representing 3,100 species.

The expansive new 3.2-acre Wildlife Explorers Basecamp is designed to appeal to all ages and foster empathy for wildlife by exploring nature. Built on the site of the historic Children’s Zoo, the basecamp features fresh and innovative elements, including eight buildings and habitats dispersed throughout four different habitat zones: Rainforest, Wild Woods, Marsh Meadows and Desert Dunes.

Tickets must be purchased at least one day prior to visit.

Loved seeing the giant pandas and all the other animals. The bus tour was fantastic and the air tram saved some walking.

What a beautiful park. I loved all of the different animals especially Pandas and Gorilla's. I loved the bus tour and saw so many animals at the start of my day. Then I did the African trail and Austrailian. Beware there are a lot of ups and downs to the paths wear good shoes. I then rode the Skyrail. What an amazing view from up there. I love the variety of reptiles and amphibians. Oh and the birds! So many different and beautiful birds. The food was good and I don't feel overpriced for where I was. The volunteers and workers were all very nice and helpful. Thanks for a great day.

I've been going here since I was born, it gets better and better every day. The spineless wonders exhibit is such an amazing addition! Also everyone should go see the Chinese alligator at the reptile walk because he/she is precious.
