So - originally we planned to do this last year and then Irma struck. We emailed the owner who graciously offered to hold our reservation for a YEAR until we could make it back to Key West.
We were cruising and knew we didn't have a lot of time but my husband is a shark nut so we really couldn't pass this up.
We arranged with Dave for a tour and Clay and from the second we met them, we loved them! Dave is super friendly, has a great personality and is so knowledgeable about sharks and sea life in general. He shared some personal stories with us about his background and we were fascinated to learn he had trained dolphins early in his career.
Clay was the captain for the day - great guy, very funny while being warm and professional. He outlined what he had planned for us, provided cold drinks and snacks and we were off for our 2 hour trip.
Our hope was to see "something". Well we saw something alright! Both guys knew just where to go and we were able to see a small pod of dolphins playing but the highlight of the trip....the shark feed!!
Taking turns, both men rigged a baited pole and lured shark after shark to the boat to bite and take the bait. Nurse and Lemon sharks presented themselves time after time and we were amazed at the strength they have and the agility in the water. Dave explained to us that sharks have a hierarchy and we witnessed that first hand - although the bait was dropped over and over, not once did a shark accidentally bite another shark - in fact, they moved out of each others way so one and then another could get a mouthful or more of the fish.
The guys worked really hard to get us to the fish and we were not the least bit disappointed.
Great, fun day by two absolutely wonderful guys who did more than their fair share to entertain us all.
We got some super video and really great photos.
I cannot recommend this highly enough - if you are in key west and really don't know what to do for a little bit of time, DO THIS!!! FIRST!!
We had plenty of time to shop, eat lunch locally and if you don't stop for this tour, you won't know what you're missing.
This tour would be the best thing for kids interested in learning about and seeing first hand, sea life.
Conservation is really important to these 2 men and their love for the sea shows.
TEN stars isn't enough...
We'll be back next year guys to do it again!!!
Loved it.
