My husband and I brought our ten-year old son at his request, and it was absolutely wonderful! And as someone who’s not a history connoisseur, that’s saying something.
We were greeted cheerfully at the door by Gary, who turned out to be the owner of the entire collection. His intro schpiel created excitement and got us started on our tour. We had the pleasure of visiting during a pretty quiet stretch (only three other people were ever in the museum while we were there), and it translated to us being regaled with Gary’s INCREDIBLE knowledge of every single piece in his museum and more facts and trivia than any human should be capable of remembering. His recollection of the history of each piece and it’s backstory/how he acquired it made learning it all so fun. Gary is a phenomenal storyteller and captivated us for almost two and a half hours! Our son is now requesting to go back for another one of our days in Savannah, and we will likely do just that.
There is SO much to see in the museum; if you’re looking for a quicker stop, you can probably quickly peruse in 60-90 minutes. But if you’re looking for the whole, immersive experience (and Gary has the time to devote attention to your group), plan for 2-3+ hours! Highly recommend!!
