The museum highlights the history of Mardi Gras in its true birthplace in America - Mobile, Alabama. I have been to the carnival museum in New Orleans, and this one in Mobile surpasses that one greatly! It showcases beautiful costumes and artifacts from the place of the original Mardi Gras celebration. They even have interactive experiences with floats! They didn’t have a tour guide available during a tour time, but their self guided tour is informative and easy to use.

We did a guided tour and our guide was knowledgable and gave us a lot of information. As a northerner, I was not aware that Mardi Gras originated in Mobile, with the first one being in 1703. There are so many beautiful things to see here. There were rooms that took your breath away when you entered because it was so lavish and beautiful. I will go here every time I visit Mobile because it was such a unique and wonderful experience.
