Stopped in at the Skunk Train with my wife and two boys (5 and 10). We booked the roughly 2 hour Saturday morning tour in Willits. If you enjoy any of the following, you’ll dig this trip - old trains, isolated Forrest, entertaining crew, history, family adventure, kids excitement.
The train ride is comfy. You can move about the two indoor seating cars that are nearly 100 years old as well as stand on a converted covered flat bed car. Drinks and pop corn and chips and beef jerkey are sold on the trip. The staff is friendly and inviting. We had train conductor Malikah who’s worked there for 18 years and is at your disposal to answer any and every question on the history of the trains, the Forrest and the town of Willits (be sure to ask about the 6 acre fire spotted by a passenger on the Skunk Train recently). On board live train music was great by the entertaining and charismatic train singer who sings old fashioned train music and even takes requests, I think our favorite was the cover of ozzy’s “Crazy Train”!
The stop near the Wolf Tree in a wide open glen where travelers can disembark and whatch the crew change the engine position was a treat.
Over-all, money well spent. We have nothing but positive comments and experience on the Skunk Train. Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique adventure.
