Zack was our driver for the Road to Hana with Mahalo Tours. We were extremely disappointed in his reckless driving and disregard for obeying traffic laws. Zack was constantly texting on his phone as he was driving the curvy, windy roads. His conversations regarding his personal life were inappropriate and not necessary in the presence of children. Zack was speeding, passing cars and constantly honking or gesturing at other drivers. He rarely slowed down to allow us to view the sights from the van windows and his concern was to see how fast he could complete the tour. He was also overheard stating he was making a Tik Tok Video as he was driving. We observed other tour drivers who were driving safe and had the best interest of their customers. Zack would often make negative comments regarding these drivers. As we were heading back to our hotel, Zack was observed by several passengers to be falling asleep. Once he hit the ruts in the shoulder of the road, he would jerk back to the driving lane. He was nodding his head, closing his eyes and kept slapping his legs and face to stay awake. At this point, we requested Zack to pull over. He tried to argue and state he was not falling asleep and the wind was pushing him out of the driving lanes. However, he did pull over and called his supervisor to request another driver. The second driver delivered us safely to our hotel. Her driving was complete opposite from Zack and we appreciated her professionalism and observance of traffic laws.
We were extremely disappointed in the reckless, disregard of Zack's concern for the safety of his passengers. I have reached out to Maholo tours to provide more feedback but have yet to receive a response. Our experience with Zach and Maholo tours is a true concern. We enjoyed seeing the sights, but the risk of being in a vehicle with Zack and his disregard of the driving laws (texting, cell phone use, speeding, reckless driving) is alarming.
