Attended the bus tour in August, the guide was very good, funny and informative while keeping the group engaged. I will say the tour was mediocre at best, there were 4 stops total only 2 where you actually get off the bus and the hotel where you start.
The tour description makes it sound like you get a behind the scenes tour of the Menger Hotel and this was not the case, we congregated in a small room outside the lobby and then walked into the lobby something the general public can do anytime, no tour of rooms or other areas not open to the public.
We headed to the cemetery, and it was unfortunately not dark yet because our tour time was moved from 8pm start to 7pm start this made this stop less appealing and should have occurred at the end of the tour when it was less hot outside and dark. Again, nothing special visited a few well-known grave sites, that anyone with google could get the stories of.
We then went to the Casa Navarro site which was closed up for the day, so we were only able to peek in the windows from outside the fence. For the price of admission ($50/person) I would think it would have included entry into this site not just a quick stop to stand outside the fence.
We went to the old jail now the Holiday Inn and again just stayed on the bus not welcome inside.
Lastly, was the Sheraton hotel, we were allowed inside to the basement where they have a little museum set up, this is also open to the public for free. Some interesting stories were shared, but once again would have been more exciting to get a special behind the scenes kind of tour not just something anyone from the public not paying $50 could do.
Overall, it was an okay way to learn some history about San Antonio but definitely not a spooky ghost tour. The bus was great to get around, but it was still very hot, a cooler of ice-cold water available on the bus would have been greatly appreciated. It would cost the tour next to nothing to offer and would make a huge difference with the heat. They also need to add a rest stop or comment at the beginning that there is nowhere to use the bathroom for the 2.5 hour tour duration. As a pregnant person, this made the tour difficult with no access to water and no access to a bathroom for nearly 3 hours.
I also thought the tour guide was quite rude at the end basically begging us for tips, we paid a lot of money to be on the tour and he made way too big of a deal out of tipping/ or not tipping. Be prepared to be heckled at the end if you want to leave early or do not tip.
