This 90-minute walking tour (which turned into 2-hours, much to our delight) was an insightful and enjoyable way to understand the history and architecture of Miami Beach led by our guide, Paula, who was an extremely knowledgeable tour guide/docent. She showed us the old, the new, the renovated and the abandoned buildings along Ocean, Washington and Collins Avenues, where we could grasp the magnificence of all the buildings and their architects.
We even went inside several buildings, such as the Essex House, to admire the craftsmanship of original terrazzo floors as well as the renovations/restoration to bring the Art Deco design back to life on the interiors as well as exteriors of the buildings.. The tour made all of us truly appreciate the value of the Miami Design Preservation League to help maintain Miami Beach's historic look for generations to come.
If you plan on going to Miami Beach, the Walking Tour is a definite must-do to truly appreciate the story behind the famous buildings.
