The Official Art Deco Gift Shop

Founded in 1976, The Miami Design Preservation League has proudly offered guided walking tours of The Art Deco District for over 40 years. All Proceeds go towards supporting preservation. Visitors are introduced to the history, architecture, and preservation efforts of Miami Beach. Tour ticket includes free admission to the Art Deco Museum and Gift Shop. There are a limited amount of tickets available for each tour, so early bookings are encouraged . Please arrive 15 minutes prior to tour departure for check-in.

I wish I had done this tour on my first trip to Miami as it has helped me understand and appreciate the buildings in the South Beach area that I had previously just passed by without noticing. My tour was with Melissa. She did a great job telling us the history of Miami Beach and showing us some art deco architectural highlights. Her tour was well thought-out and she spoke clearly, always ensuring that everyone in the group of 15 people could hear her. I recommend this tour to anyone who is visiting Miami Beach and wants to understand what they're seeing.

I highly recommend this tour. The guide when I took the tour was Joel Levine who is very knowledgeable and passionate about the material. I do think it makes the tour more appealing to have an interest in and/or appreciation for either history or architecture. I find architecture interesting, but the history of the local area is what I found most fascinating. One other thing to note--Joel usually makes the tour 2 hours. He tells you that up front, but I think it is a good thing to know before you make plans for the tour. You are free to leave the tour at any time. The tour includes admission to the small Art Deco museum. I had time to view only a couple of the exhibits, but it looked interesting. Joel can also provide restaurant recommendations. FYI you are on your feet for most of the tour (a couple of places to sit and rest briefly), but the actual amount of walking is about a mile or less. It was not demanding in terms of the walking.

I have been a huge Art Deco fan and collector most of my life. I was very excited about taking this walking tour. It was fabulous. A few of the venues let us view the interior décor. Wish I could have taken all of it home with me. Great docent. I apologize I can't recall her name, but she is British. The store is fun to brose through too, and the museum is awesome!
