I got tickets to Mike's tour for me, my parents (late 50's/early 60's), and my 9-year-old daughter as XMas gifts. We made a weekend of it and on a mild May morning kicked off our adventure at the appointed time.
Now: I don't know about you, but I can remember with bittersweet clarity just how much I loathed the drudgery of tours like these when I was a kid. So if there's an accurate measure of a quality history tour, it's got to be whether or not my daughter ends up complaining, which she didn't—not. even. once!
We started by setting the stage for the beginning of the Revolution's beginning. Over the next 4ish hours, Mike laced us through the patchwork of events, some widely known and some surprisingly unheard of, that were the levers for the formal start of the Revolution. By Boston standards, we moved quickly but not hurriedly, and Mike displayed a masterful knack for balancing walking-and-talking with short stops at key spots in the pre-Revolution's chronology, as well as a 10-15 minute break midway through.
If there's another measure of a high-quality history tour, it's surely that my parents, daughter, and I spent the following half hour proudly gushing our newfound knowledge at my aunt and her sister-in-law, who both live locally.
So: if you've read this far, it seems the only thing left to say is what we're both already thinking: buy the ticket and take the ride. Enjoy!
