We chose Scuba-Fun for our first ever trip the Florida Keys in July 2010. Their rates and packages were among the best I could find in Key Largo. . I told them what we wanted, primarily a dive trip, and they set up everything - accommodations, dives, and land-based tours. They have some terrific packages and hotel options on their website - check them out. Anya, Diane, Jason and Doug took excellent care of us while we were there. They are also multi-lingual, speaking (fluent!)German, French and Spanish, as well as English.
We stayed at the Suites of Key Largo. It was a one bedroom with a kitchen, right on the marina. The hotel has been around for a while, so it doesn't sparkle like new anymore, but it was clean and comfortable and we had a kitchen, which helped save on some expenses. For our needs, it was perfect. Anya also provided recommendations (and a few discounts) on local dining - and all of her recommendations were awesome! While you are there, make sure you eat at the Fish House, or the Fish House Encore (live music).
We got in some amazing dives and did a fabulous tour of the Everglades. This tour is a must do, but be aware that it is not a 'walk in the park'! You will slog through the Everglades (could be wet, depending on the season), but you will see the Everglades up close and personal. Everything was taken care of by Scuba-Fun - they even took our dive gear each day and rinsed and hung it to dry and returned it to the boat for our next day's dives. I felt very pampered. It's probably the least amount of work I have ever had to do on a dive trip! Anya also arranged for us to head down to Key West and dive the Vandenberg. She booked accommodations and dives - all we had to do was show up!
Scuba-Fun does not have their own boats. Sounds strange, but it's actually an advantage. Because they don't have their own boats, they are not tied to a specific itinerary. You just let them know where you would like to dive, or what type of diving you are interested in, and they get you on a boat to that site, or that kind of diving. I let Anya pick some of the sites, except for the Spiegel Grove which is a must-dive, and she picked some awesome dives.
I would highly recommend Scuba-Fun if a trip to the Florida Keys is on your wish list.
