We found everything very well organized, the staff very friendly/helpful and the facilities nice. Check in was smooth and the safety briefing effective with some humor thrown in. Everyone was outfitted with a life preserver, helmet and paddle and it was a short bus ride on I40 to the drop off point.
The whole operation relies on water release from a dam that makes the river suitable for rafting and I believe that happens at the same time each day (1100) so all the rafting companies arrive at the drop point at the same time, which means there are a LOT of rafts launching in a short period of time and, essentially, a raft convoy down the river.
All this was very well choreographed and the trip down the River was good. Our group had 11 in it so we were in two rafts with no other folks added in. Our guide, Grace, did a great job giving us instructions, providing information on the River, ensuring everyone had opportunities to get soaked, etc. There was a calm spot where she gave us the opportunity to jump out of the raft and swim in the river.
You end up getting out of the River about 100 yards from the building where we started and turn in your gear. There are small changing cubicles where you can change into dry clothes if you want, a shower and bathrooms. Of course there is lots of merchandise available in the gift shop.
I thought the entire operation was very well organized, the facilities very good and Grace and Morgan were excellent guides! Highly recommend River Rats!!
